Unit 2: Benefits of Waterschools (Health, Environment, Learning)

In this unit I will learn:

  1. The benefits of tap water for health

  2. The benefits of tap water for the environment

  3. The benefits of tap water for learning

Introduction into the topic:

The human body is 65% water.

It is necessary to drink to restore the water that is lost with the urine (an average of 1-1.5 l of water is lost per day); through the skin ie with evaporation towards the outside (about 0.35 l) and with feces (about 0.2 l).

Nutritionists generally encourage drinking 2-3 liters of water a day. For a child of 7-10 years it is recommended to drink 8 glasses of water per day, that is about 1200 ml.

The required amount of water to be consumed varies according to physical activity (due to increased sweating); according to the climatic conditions (in the presence of higher temperatures than usual or very cold or when going at high altitude: high altitudes increase the diuresis) and depending on the foods that are consumed, or those who take a lot of fruit and vegetables will have water needs significantly lower than those who do not eat with these food categories.

But why is it preferable to consume tap water instead of mineral water?

In the next paragraphs we will see the benefits deriving from the consumption of tap water for health, the environment and learning.
