Water School Köln and Villa Öki
For almost 20 years Villa Öki has been a fixture in the Cologne education landscape. It has set itself the task of experiencing the many facets of water, with the aim of promoting responsible use of this precious resource in a playful way.
The many years of experience, paired with current didactic methods and the constant development of the curriculum offer make the "environmental lessons to touch" an unforgettable experience. Pupils are encouraged to take proactive, responsible action, in the spirit of sustainability.
In addition to experiments, puzzles, exercises and games of movement, guided tours through the major sewage treatment plant in Cologne-Stammheim and through the Flittarder Rheinauen are central components of the teaching program.
Instead of surfing in virtual worlds, the students immerse themselves in the real, wonderful and multi-faceted world of water. With experiments, guided tours and many games around the cool water, they learn playfully the peculiarities about the material, without which a life on our planet would not be possible.
For example, in the teaching unit Drinking Water, you can find out from where the water from our tap actually comes from and who reliably supplies us with it. On the other hand, the teaching of sewage deals with the question of where the used water reaches and how it is cleaned.
The lesson offers are three-hourly, can be booked separately and are aimed at pre-school children, pupils, trainees and other multipliers with the aim of promoting a responsible and sensitive approach to the precious resource of water.
Carrier of this institution are Wasserform Köln e.V. and water companies of the municipality of Köln. Teaching takes place in the extracurricular learning locations of the water company Westhoven and the sewage treatment plant Stammheim.
